Other Top Gear gas companies actually put other detergents and cleaners in the gasoline that stop carbon build-up to keep your engine running like it should have for a longer period of time.
Ive been a long time fan of arco gas. But the last time i filled with arco brand petrol i started noticing something. First my car had a strange humming noise. Next it began to shake violently, followed by a sudden power loss. Just when i thought it was over my engine spontaneously combusted, imploded, then went nuclear. After the fallout i decided that was the last time i would fill using arco gas.
Your vehicle manual will normally, recommend the gas brand. Read your vehicle manual people and this will resolve many of the gasoline concerns. Had both Arco and Shell. All the pumps have filters in them , and over time they clog up and need to replace it.
In my experience I change filters in Arco gas pumps lot more than I do with shell. Maybe 5 to 1. Even when you consider same volumes going through them. I could see your fuel pumps or injectors clogging with Arco. I used to always pump arco because of them being cheap. After owning gas station I only pump shell or Chevron. In our industry 76 is also considered a generic gasoline too. At year 15 was given a new gas card and could get gas anywhere but Arco.
After two tank fulls and nothing else I was doing 80mph. The head mechanic for Cerritos GMC will tell you that additives will clog fuel ejections for starters, also with other mechanics. Stop making stories up just to try and make people think your knowledgeable about vehicles you asshat.
You amateurs are too busy bickering about your performance perceptions to actually get an intelligent and informed professional opinion. Put your ignorance aside and talk to professional mechanics…the ones that tear apart engines week after week, year after year…not your gearhead neighbor who impresses you because he can adjust his brakes and change his plugs, or some of the anecdotal stories above…there are a ton of factors that figure into performance, not just one lousy tank of gas.
Fuel filters also clog earlier with Arco gas. One tank of gas or driving a few thousand miles is not enough for you to tell the difference…and increases or decreases in mpg will be too negligible for you to notice or worry about, but hey, maybe saving 30 cents a gallon is worth it.

But up to the point that they put the additives in, gas is gas. Killrose Diamond Member. Oct 26, 6, 8 I did a quick search to see if there was a dyno fuel test comparison but did not see one. Anyone know of a link showing various fuels being dyno tested in a shoot-out of some sort? Vic Elite Member. Jun 12, 48, 10, What top professional tuners have told me is that there definitely is a difference and that it's that the top tier gases are of more consistent quality.
So it's not something you'll see in a dyno run shoot-out but over time, but sooner than the lack of additives. Usually what happens is that inconsistent quality gas will cause occasional pinging, which will cause the ECU to reduce the advance multiplier and pull retard ignition timing, which means jerkier acceleration and less full power.
Jan 12, 0 0. Better fuel as additives that help keep valves clean. Best bet is to buy fuel from a station that does a lot of business. Their fuel will be fresher, cleaner and they tend to use better fuel suppliers.
Also never fuel up if they are filling their tanks as it stirs up any contaminates in their tanks. Most stations have inline filters but its not worth the risk. MegaVovaN Diamond Member. Jun 1, 6, 25 Until that transition happens, the majority of America's drivers will remain beholden to the network of gasoline stations across the nation to keep our cars, trucks and SUVs running.
It's fair to say that most motorists probably don't give much thought to the quality of a gas station unless it stands out as either significantly better than the average or upsettingly terrible. After all, you're just making a quick pit stop for fuel and coffee, right? Why go out of your way? The fact is, all those short trips add up over time, and the quality of your local fill-up spot not only has an effect on your car, but your personal satisfaction, too.
You're likely avoiding being out in public during the pandemic as much as possible, and that's smart. But there will undoubtedly be times where you have to drive to get essentials, and that might also mean you need to refuel your ride. In addition to wearing gloves to handle the pump and having hand sanitizer handy, in this time of COVID , you might want to strongly consider downloading a smartphone app for your gas stations of choice. With most of these apps, you can pay from inside your car, meaning you won't have to touch potentially contaminated gas-pump card scanners, keypads and receipts.
Plus, by not going into the convenience store, you'll be less tempted to grab a diet-busting candy bar or sugary soda. It's a win-win. To make it easier for you to choose where to fill up, we've compiled a list of the 10 best gas-station brands for you and your ride. How did we come up with this list? By looking at four important factors: fuel quality, number of service stations ubiquity , overall customer satisfaction and credit card reward programs.
Let's start with your car. While there are stringent rules regulating what goes into your fuel tank, those standards still don't necessarily mean you're being offered the best fuel. That's where Top-Tier gas comes in. Top-Tier-rated gasoline contains a concentration of added detergents that are higher than the minimum amount specified by the EPA. This can result in a cleaner engine and overall improved performance, both in terms of output and fuel economy.
Don't take our word for it, either. This study from AAA PDF goes into detail about how Top-Tier detergent gasoline can make a real difference in quality without impacting your wallet to a significant degree. To that end, we've ruled out any company that hasn't committed to using Top-Tier-rated gas universally e.
