Steam will reinstall it, redownload a bunch of patches and stuff, and it should be ok. You did say it was on 56k, so this will take a veeery loooooong tiiiiiime. Should I consider having a friend load up my save file on his pc and just get me over that bridge save the game and give me the new save file?
Or should I go right into re downloading source content? Also is it best to delete the Valve files though windows explorer or delete game content through steam?
Use the Verify Integrity of Game Cache option in the right-click dialog. I have verified everything in my steam game list that uses the source engine, and they all came up clean. So hows this for f-ed up? I uninstalled steam from my computer, which uninstalled every steam game I had. I took my pc to a friends that had broad band. I downloaded everything that uses the source engine. It finished over night. I start a new HL2 game, it runs great. I then copy over the save files that I had made a copy of.
I load up one of the save file, I play the whole level of crossing the bridge again. And guess what? Another option is to do a wipe and reinstall of windows. Or buy new ram. But since this is the only game that crashes with an error message like that I dont think it is ram. I hope some one out there has an idea for me, and hopefully it will work. Sounds like the script data for that segment is corrupt in your save.
Restart at the nearest checkpoint, play it over? That thought had crossed my mind, as well as starting the game over, since I am not that far into it at this point. Well thanks for that idea Blacken I went back and replayed the chapter Highway 17 from the beginning and was able to get past the point where the game would crash before. I have made it to the always enjoyable sand traps. Its strange, but something was wrong with all the save files I was using along Highway The problem has been solved with out spending money on new ram.
I guess I'll have to find some other excuse to spend money on parts. Thanks for those who helped. Strange crashing problem in HL2 31 posts.
Hrm, strange. Have you tried reinstalling? Jackass JoeJoe. Originally posted by Jackass JoeJoe: quote:. Ars Praefectus et Subscriptor. Also voting corrupt content.

Install Steam. Store Page. Half-Life 2 Store Page. Global Achievements. So I bought Half Life 2 a couple of weeks ago and I am loving it. But I have one problem, it keeps crashing in the chapter anticitizen one in the courtyard after the consoling couple. This has never happened before. I tried closing all background programs. I even turned down the graphics a bit. There's no pop-up saying "HL2. EXE has shut down" so I can't provide a picture.
Sometimes it just freezes for a couple of minutes or it just closes. I've been unable to figure out what the cause is. And I'm not even sure if it's just point in the game where it crashes or I got a limited amount of time before it crashes. So I hope you can help me fix it. And thanks. Edit: Nearly 2 years later I remembered to say I fixxed this but I'm keeping it open for others that are having the same problem. Thanks for everyone's help!
Edit 2: About 7 years later and people are still replying. Thanks for your help everyone! In the time this thread has been up I've beaten HL2 a few times and graduated high school. Gonna keep this thread open for anyone who might possibly need it and for the sheer nostalgic factor. Nope, I've got a gigabyte , not a strix , but I guess they're quite similar. Have you done anything specific that made it happen less? Have a gtx and amd fx Anything special in Launch Options? Any custom files like surfaceproperties or no explosion mod?
Nothing special in launch options complete launch options are '-w -h -console -novid -fullscreen'. I am using the surfaceproperties thing and no explosion mod. Tried dx9 using b4nny's dx9 config, still crashing. Oh, missed this thread. I built a new pc few months ago and started having exact same issue.
