Why carmax is a good place to work

Cons Stressful. Was this review helpful? Yes There are 6 helpful reviews 6 No There are 8 unhelpful reviews 8. Report Share. Everyone there makes me feel welcomed even the manager. They work with you and make sure that if you have any questions they answer them.

I love working for this company so far. Love this job. A great employer understands that you have other things to take care of outside of work.

By having a flexible start and end time, you can more easily make time for appointments, family obligations and personal matters. While a flexible schedule isn't possible for every type of career, you may want to consider going into a career that gives you more freedom.

Pros People! Poor management, poor leadership Double diamond sales consultant Former Employee - Lithia springs - November 9, Worst place ever to work, stressful, paycuts often, long hours, no offdays , dishonest people and everyday practice. Company hires anybody with a pulse.

Pros Nothing. Cons Everything. Would you rate your company five stars? Rate your employer to help people make better career decisions.

While working at CarMax, is fantastic All the other departments are treated fairly and equally, however this department gets nothing in the way of funding, or incentives. Also, The management in this department knows about the same as what you know about the job, and that is nothing! They also look for and seek out one person each that they want to prep, mold, and train to be promoted, while the employees who have been there the longest get passed over every single time.

They do not look for the person who is most qualified either, the people they try to promote also have no understanding of the actual job functions.

This department is a failure. But if you want a job where management pretends to care about you, says they are going to help you succeed and don't, then look no further because this department is for you. Pros Hours, Benefits, Pay, Remote. Cons Management1. Yes There are 1 helpful reviews 1 No. CarMax was a fun place to work, but when they wanted to expand after the pandemic closures, they loaded way too much on the Business Office Associates.

From checking in titles, tracking dmv checks, being the main POC ador the entire store, even doing home deliveries and not getting any benefit from them. The call center awful idea made too many issues for the sales consultants physically at the store. The sales consultants at the store are NOT paid well enough for the work that they do. They had rubbish discounts on cars too.

Pros Paid training, great coworkers. Cons Pay, benefits, car discount, job stress. Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No. Worked at Carmax for a year or two as a vehicle condition accessor overall it was a great job.

Pros You make your own paycheck. Cons Micromanaged a lot. Was this review helpful? Yes There are 1 helpful reviews 1 No. Report Share. Company hires anybody with a pulse. Pros Nothing. Cons Everything. Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No. The company says they are focused on associates and pay fairly but most associates are overworked and the pay is low compared to other commissioned jobs. Pros Training. Cons Pay, management. The way the company has set up their commission structure with the call center is very unfortunate for its real sales people. Pros Fun environment.

Cons Commission structure, upper management. Job seekers rely on your experience. However they have no regard for your personal life as far as scheduling , if you need time off they'll give it to you but you literally work all day everyday.

You do not receive the same treatment as a senior associate and it's not hidden. Occasionally certain managers will throw you to the wolves with certain customer issues and avoid intervening as much as possible. They hassle you about things they won't hassle the next associate with. They also tend to call you constantly during your break. As a new associate you are put thru an evaluation period that determines whether or not you remain apart of the company and they do not thoroughly explain that period and how that system works which pushes you to be discouraged because you know at the end of the day your job is not guaranteed if you don't meet a certain number of points and the points are not fairly added in all reality.

Pros Hour long lunches, build customer service skills, good training pay. Could be much better. Pros Hour lunch if you choose to take your full hour lunch. Cons Base rate of pay is very low, management is ok. Yes There are 3 helpful reviews 3 No. Good place to work. Good pay but is straight commission. Like all sales job you get what you put in it. Must work weekends and Holidays but thats car sales for you. I would definitely recommend Carmax as a place to work if your interested in Cars and Sales.

Yes No There are 1 unhelpful reviews 1. Great jobs, great benefits, was there for three years. Left due to school otherwise i would still be there. You also have the ability to make more money. Car loans are a multi-year, contractual commitment.

We are an honest and transparent company, and that has become our brand. Our benefits. Benefits shown are subject to plan eligibility. Grow your career At CarMax, you can shape your career path in ways you never imagined. Our associates live these values, embrace our differences, and challenge perceptions.

As a company, we nurture a culture where innovation thrives and our workforce reflects the communities we serve. There are a LOT of meetings that you don't get paid for. Attending a meeting on your day of is not mandatory, but is "appreciated". In other words, you are expected to show up. Every morning and Sunday, there is a training that IS mandatory. You do not get paid for this time. Most of this training is endless repetition, up to the point where every one will feel like a little kid.

Overkill is an understatement. If you don't like role plays, CarMax is not for you. Advancement to management is promised over and over again to all that are interested is sheer impossible. It is easier to enter management from outside the company than from within.

Before you are eligible to a promotion, management will give you unrealistic goals to achieve and re-adjust those goals even if you have reached them. Customers will call you on your time off and you better answer these calls if you want to keep the sale. You can make a reasonable living working 5 days a week, but usually only during summer time. Work weeks of 55 hours are no exception. Not every CarMax store is the same.

A lot depends on daily management. They pretend to be people managers, but in the end it is just about meetin Pros co workers. Cons senior management. Sales Consultant United States Jul 8, Not a cutthroat environment like you would find at most dealerships.

I was with the company for over 20 years and watched dramatic changes take place over the years. When I first started there were fewer than 10 stores in the company and it was a very close knit organization. Corporate management was able to visit the stores on a regular basis and knew most of the associates by name and were aware of what was happening in the stores.

The changes that they would put in place due to these store visits were beneficial to the customers, the business and the employees. As a result, managers are graded on how well they pencil whip their reports and reviews and not on how well they manage the employees and the floor so most of the time when you need a manager to help you close a sale or gather documents for financing they are too busy on their computers to be able to help.

Also, apparently the company has decided that they have grown the business enough and are now looking for ways to squeeze every penny out of it that they can. As an example they recently built huge call centers.

Pros Nice camaraderie amongst the sale consultants. I have enjoyed all my time at Carmax, but I feel that it is time to move on to other challenges. For all this time Carmax has provided me a fun and productive workplace; I am certainly grateful for the opportunity to work here and for the skills I have learned.

It is important to me that there is a social component to the work I do; I enjoy relating to and interacting with people. Carmax has provided such a friendly and supportive environment.

While I feel that I have received a professional education here, the main thing that is missing — to me — is stability and certainty.

I have a young family to support and encourage; it would be nice to work in a field where, at the end of each day, I can feel that I was successful in a product-oriented sort of way and that the office I work in is a better for the work I have done. Next, I am either on the phone with or emailing my customers, scheduling appointments with them and encouraging a sale. After these tasks, I greet new walk-in clients and provide them with world-class customer service.

Carmax has been a great company to work for: throughout the day I practice teamwork and the ethic that is part of the culture here at Carmax; I plan my business day in the morning and during the day, I communicate with various departments and managers at all levels.

The management here at Carmax has mentored me since my first day, and there is always a great team of experienced leaders happy to o Pros i enjoy working in a team. Cons the inherent instability of car sales. President club is achievable and nice perks of having that Answered Nov 28, Answered Nov 7,
